By activating public support for tangible, self-sustaining housing solutions for Pasadena’s homeless communities, the students in the class created real change.

Sue Nami, the force of nature herself, travels through different beach environments to tell people how to recognize tsunami warning signs and how to be safe, should a tsunami strike.

Where’s Daryl?

The “Where’s Daryl?” campaign and educational toolkit features a series of short PSAs which depict Daryl, a fictional middle school student who has gotten into trouble through his involvement with guns. Complementing the campaign’s 8 classroom lessons and teaching exercises—the PSA series highlights the important life events that Daryl, represented only by a cardboard cutout, is missing out on—playing basketball, taking a driver’s permit test, spending time with his girlfriend—because he’s in trouble with the law.

Original campaign concept, initial design and PSA series by Art Center College of Design students Thomas Banuelos, Damon Casarez, Alex Cheng, and Rhombie Sandoval.

Hands in the Mist: Safe Agua Peru Documentary

A 10 minute documentary by Erik Anderson (Broadcast Cinema), in collaboration with with the Latin American NGO, Un Techo para mi Pais and its Innovation Center.  The film follows the Designmatters Safe Agua Peru project, in which Art Center students co-created innovative design solutions to overcome water poverty with families living in Cerro Verde, a 30,000-person slum [asentamientos] perched on the hillsides surrounding Lima, Peru.

We Are Youth: UNFPA Motion Piece

Created by graphic design students; Kevin Lam, Lamson To, Esther Park, Daniel Choi, Crystal Kim, Lisa Chen,  Il Chan Chun, and  Hyunsun Yoo.   This short, motion, PSA addresses the key points of the UNFPA,  “We Are Youth” campaign; gender equality, child marriage and reproductive health.  The piece was animated in a raw style and shows children literally erasing their nightmarish conditions and drawing  a more positive environment for themselves.

The ARkStorm, a short film

Created by Art Center alumnus Theo Alexopoulos for the United States Geological Survey (USGS) this short motion graphic film explores the very real potential for a catastrophic winter storm in California, which scientists are calling The ARkStorm. The film was featured in January 2011 at the opening of the USGS ARkStorm Summit in Sacramento, an event which convened emergency managers, regulatory and scientific agencies, policymakers, business leaders, and other experts from the public and private sector to forge a plan-of-action for addressing and mitigating this expected storm scenario.
